Research Techniques

What is research?

Research is an investigation in to a study or topic you may want to know about, you would want to do research to study sources, establish facts and reach new conclusions. research is when you want to learn and find out about a topic in depth. it can be something you may already know about but you want to find out about it in depth there are four different types of research which are primary, secondary, quantitive and qualitative.

What is Primary Research?

Primary research is when you have no sources and you are starting a research project from scratch on your own with know help from anyone or anything. primary research is when there is know data available for the researcher. this means the researcher needs to make things from scratch such as collecting data and making questionnaires then looking at the data you get your result. the disadvantage is that primary research is more time consuming and may cost more. examples of primary research asocial surveys such as questionnaires and interviews.

The advantages of primary research are that the research could be quick and cheap depending on how much research you may want to make. disadvantages include is that the interviewees may interpret the questions differently also the researchers can be biased making their research too one sided. also if a lot of research is needed to be made then it may cost a lot to do because a lot of research is needed.

What is secondary research?

secondary research is when you have a some data and sources available to you therefore you have some help because you already have some sources which you can work from and get a result. this data is available through reports and other things such as articles etc. if the researcher is doing some secondary details then the sources that are being used are already done by other organisations so the research can use this research and develop it further and get a conclusion.

the disadvantage about secondary research is that the information that has been made available may not suit what the researcher needs waisting the researchers time. examples of secondary research include published statistics, published texts. and media etc. the advantages of secondary research is that it is cheap and you can have access to it. also another advantage is that it is the only way to observing a large scale of research. the disadvantages are that the resources may be incorrect and inaccurate. also another disadvantage is that it has a lack of consistency and perspective.

What is quantitive research?

quantitive research is a more thorough research because it is about asking people questions and overall it very well structured and organised. quantitive research is a more accurate type of research because you are studying and looking at things in depth. quantitive research is about asking people for their opinions in a structured way so that have good evidence and and facts to support your research. also quantitive research is about having statistical results so you can prove your research more thoroughly. examples of quantitive research include percentage amounts, marketing, stock markets and specific questions etc.

The disadvantages of quantitive research is that results are limited because sometimes there can be too much statistical data which may not be able to prove anything thoroughly enough. another disadvantage is that quantitive research can be made biased and very one sided eliminating the other side completely. an advantage of quantitive research is that it is very thorough and correct and it uses statistics which mostly prove things. another advantage is that it has a good summary and it is very well explained.

What is qualitative research?

qualitative research is a more written research this type of research is very detailed and accurate, it is going through the research in depth. qualitative research is about exploring issues and understanding and answering questions. qualitative research includes focus groups, in depth research, a lot of analysing and evaluation, it is very detailed with a lot of explanation. it includes open end surveys, pictures, audio recordings and literature. example include images in depth interviews and audio recordings.

The advantages of qualitative research includes in depth research, build new theories and explore new areas of research. The disadvantages include that the researcher is very biased and it is very expensive and difficult to make all the research for it making it very costly. also it is not understood properly by other researchers.
